L1 Rocket

When I first joined AIAA at Northeastern, I was helping others build High Powered Rockets as I learned how they work. I designed a rocket to get my L1 NAR certification; certifications allow the purchasing and launching of larger impulse motors. I designed my rocket to work for both my L1 and L2 certification attempts. I successfully flew and recovered the rocket for my L1 certification in early 2015, and earned my L2 certification in early November 2015.

Personal Rocket Project

High powered rocket motors come in several standard diameters and lengths. I've learned the value of designing with expandability and flexibility in mind. I built my motor tube to accept larger motors (54mm), and created an adapter for smaller diameter motors (38mm). I was able to launch for my L1 on the smaller motor with the adaptor, but had the option to use a larger motor if the rocket was heavier than expected.
