Gofer, Cabinet Maker, Finish Carpenter
My father is a carpenter, and I worked with him from a very young age. When I first started my job was mostly just to bring him tools, clean up the job site, and listen to classic rock. He would alway explain to me why he was doing something, and if he didn't I would usually ask. Over time I started doing more for him: measuring and cutting stock, and simple installations. By freshman year of high school I was working 40+ hours a week during the summers, doing everything from framing walls to installing wainscoting (and still cleaning up job sites). The work helped to teach me about material properties, and some basic physics, as well as giving me a perspective of how things have to be designed in a way that facilities ease of installation.
